Chello Minimum Viable Product Design

Chello is a robotaxi subscription service that allows users to hail a robotaxi from any AV company. With the aim of making travel equitable, it offers an innovative travel experience powered by AI and other smart technologies, backed by deep user research into its target users, Gen Zs, at a minimal fee.

The

Problem

Our survey found that people who owned their own transport had the highest ratings for their mobility experience and those who took public transport had rated their transport experience as average.

Painpoints cited were of inconvenience, heavy reliance on public transportation systems and problems of crowdedness for those who took public transport. On the contrary, people who owned their own transport reported feelings of autonomy and high satisfaction.

We conducted 5 interviews and 1 contextual inquiry with European young people aged between 20 to 29 years old.

We were able to create a persona of Maria.

User Journey:

Mobility is the most critical part of Maria's life and something to think about while making any life decisions. Currently relying on the public transportation which is the only viable option to commute to university and meet people regularly. The other options could be biking, however does not prefer since it is cold and many times raining. Cannot afford a car nor has a license as both are expensive. The public transportation is often times unreliable and take longer duration since the point A to Point B has multiple touch points. Very unhappy with the current mobility situation, however does not have better options.

There are few improvements proposed through the journey map:

  • Improved infrastructure for remote locations.
  • Point A to Point B personal ride however does not need license (more of an autonomous driving experience).
  • Improved last mile connectivity.
  • Faster mode of reaching point A to Point B with least touch points.
  • App alerts and quick replan of trips when needed.

We discovered the following

three key insights:

  1. Mobility affects the quality of life for young people and whether they achieve their life priorities.
  2. Young people travel to connect with themselves and connect with others. This is very important for their mental health.
  3. Infrastructures impact lifestyles young people had:
    a. To make major decisions such as:
a.1. to move to more desirable locations with suitable infrastructure or
a.2. to take inconvenient transportation that was cheaper.

Our Solution, Chello, is To enable young people's movement to live their best lives

Few would argue that, despite the advancements of
feminism over the past three decades, women still face a
double standard when it comes to their behavior.

1. Quality experience

  • Giving sense of control (ownership)
  • allowing the achievement of life goals
  • Removing of inconvenience

2. Allow for meaningful connections to people

3. Convenient and reliable transport

Idea

Our proposal is for a subscription service that allows users to choose from a range of transport based on their needs and travel times. We will develop a technology that is compatible and partners with self driving transportation allows for:

On-demand Booking System

Customisable Vehicle Configurations

Personalised travel Setting

AI-Enabled Smart Routing

1. On demand booking system customised for purpose and duration e.g. daily commute, a weekend road trip, or a longer-term rental.

2. Customisable Vehicle Configurations: The user would have the ability to customise certain aspects of the vehicle configuration based on their needs and preferences. For example, the user could choose to have the transportation system configured for maximum fuel efficiency or for a more comfortable ride. They could also choose to have the transportation system equipped with different types of technology, such as an advanced entertainment system or a high-end navigation system (see point 4).  Besides that, the AI interacts with the user, through voice control, to give enhanced sense of control when travelling.

3. Personalised Travel Settings: The user would be able to set their preferred travel settings in advance, so that the transportation system would be ready to go when they need it. This could include things like preferred seat position, temperature control, and music preferences. - Further idea on point 3: If the user uses a subscription service, often the system saves his favourite settings for quicker bookings.

4. AI-Enabled Smart Routing: The AI technology in the transportation system would be able to use real-time data on traffic conditions and other factors to optimise the route and travel time based on the user's needs. For example, if the user needs to arrive at their destination by a certain time, the transportation system could automatically adjust the route and speed to ensure on-time arrival. Further idea: Hollographic system idea - friends/family can show up on to eliminate feelings of loneliness or boredom. Friends/family could be travelling at the same time to the same destination.

Market Research

We surveyed the market to understand existing solutions. We found that most Autonomous Vehicle manufacturers were focused on driving safety and those who were interested in the interactions with passengers on board focused on two main aspects the first is AI interactions with voice commands for example, the second is infotainment which typically utilised VR/AR solutions

We found no direct competitor offering what we proposed.

Chello targets Gen Zs who are primarily studying or just starting out in the workforce. Our pilot launch takes place in Germany, Munich.

Ideation and Testing

We consider the follofing interactions we users:

  • Card sortings for the Mobile app Information Architecture
  • Co-design with users
  • Testing conversational design of Chello's Voice Assitant
  • Usability test Chello's Mobile App
